I couldn’t resist posting this simple guide. I have always bought from Victory Seed Company which is towards the bottom of these nonSanto seed providers. There are countless reasons why you don’t want modified foods in your garden even if they grow better. To me the only one that really matters, and probably the least harmful, is the fact that these foods have not been around very long and our bodies aren’t accustomed to digesting them. Couple that with this list http://www.responsibletechnology.org/10-Reasons-to-Avoid-GMOs and you will begin to understand and even be seriously pissed that these things are legal. I am all for smaller Government but if this shit slipped by the FDA I am very afraid of less regulation. Bottom line, keep your ears and eyes open for GMO’s and follow the list I provided.

If you have been keeping track of global warming estimates and what scientists are thinking (i.e. Hurricane Sandy) this report might come as a relief to you. Typically when I see these reports it goes something like “We were predicting catastrophic events like this, but not for a hundred years or more”. Luckily this time they are strangely on target, which means that we have either gotten strangely easy with the fact that we are destroying the Earth or there is less to worry about than we might have thought in the near future. Based on what I have seen in the past though, I am going with the former.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013/mar/27/pesticide-bees-scent-food-neocotinoid
This seems to be one of the many hypothesis into where the bees are going. It sees they all revolve around human interruption with their natural way of life which basically boils down to chemicals. I know what you are all thinking, “screw the bees, who needs them, we can’t all afford to eat organic”. If that is what you are thinking you would prove to be quite naive as bees pollinate ( know you think you know what it means but it bares rereading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollination) plants which keeps all plants producing. They are extremely important to our environment and our well being. Globally, it’s estimated that 9.5 percent of the total economic value of agricultural products for human consumption comes from insect pollination – in 2005, this amounted to just under $200 billion. We may all assume that wind will do the trick but as we see that isn’t the case, as a matter of fact, some plants are much more reliant on Bee pollination, take almonds for instance. The state of California is one of the largest producers of almonds but due to a phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder also known as CCD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colony_collapse_disorder) these bees are dying. The Capitalist society that we are can’t have this and thus we bring in Aussie bees at a high cost to the farmers and an enormous carbon footprint for the rest of us. This is a huge deal, watch this, the last I checked it was available on Netflix, this is a life changer. http://www.vanishingbees.com/

Encroachment on their habitat, oh urban sprawl, how I hate you.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013/mar/26/scottish-government-approves-windfarm-donald-trump
I will just say it, Donald Trump has zero foresight. I suppose that is why he has been married so many times. Though, knowing how he operates he probably had planned on spending time on this site and his narcissism wouldn’t allow it as it would make his hair look less than perfect, as it usually does.

WARNING CSM makes you take a one question survey to read the article. Google shows why being green isn’t just good for the environment. It is a sustainable business practice that can save considerable amounts of money over time. Their director of energy and sustainability hit it on the head stating “while fossil-based prices are on a cost curve that goes up, renewable prices are on this march downward.” If we could all be so forward thinking, maybe that is why Google is one of the world’s most valuable companies, though that has something to do with copying the Iphone down to the last detail to make their Android phones, that is another story though.

I know what you are thinking, Fox reporting something about our overuse of resources? Must have made it in by accident. Rupert Murdoch likely eats shark fin soup three times a day for his libido. He is 82 with a 44 year old wife after all.

I can only point to this as the primary reason I find gardening and spending time outside as so beneficial to the way I feel about myself and my overall health. Spending time in nature (for me, gardening as it mixes my two favorite things food and nature) can actually slow your heart rate and lower your blood pressure. WARNING, if you are a die hard capitalist you may want to stay away, spending time in nature has been shown to lower the positive feelings gained from money and possessions and grow a natural feeling of well being and connection with community.

A must watch, feelgood film of the year. This man used plants to grow fish and fish to grow plants at a $47,000 saving over doing things, well, unnaturally if you will. This is seriously something that more people should be doing, I am actually thinking about it myself. Also, MiracelGro is poison, don’t put that shit on your plants. Take a look at my next article to see some of the natural health benefits of this type of lifestyle.
